Unbearable is my project for the MA Animation course at UCA (University for the Creative Arts), from 2020.
It demonstrates how overwhelming the world can be to an autistic person. It is an experimental film featuring abstract animations set to instrumental scores that represent emotions. The main theme of the film is autism, because I myself am on the spectrum.
The film tells the story of Elina, an autistic student who wants to join her university’s theatre club. The film is traditionally animated and it takes place in two different worlds, one real, the other abstract.
The film has been selected to the Her International Festival in Ireland in 2020, the Tokyo Lift-Off Film Festival in Japan in 2021 and the Osaka Bright Film Festival in the UK in 2022.
